We're honored to share that the Aquila 50 Sail catamaran has been nominated for the 2026 Multihull of the Year award, presented by Multihulls World, in the Sail 45' to 55' category.
The Aquila 50 Sail is the first model in Aquila's new sailing catamaran line, which also includes the 44 Sail arriving later in 2026 and the 65 Sail in 2027. She made her world premiere at the 2026 Miami International Boat Show, and this nomination is a proud way to start a new chapter.
Voting is open through April 18, 2026, and the winner will be announced at the International Multihull Show in La Grande Motte, France, where the Aquila 50 Sail will have her European premiere! Cast your vote. Your support would mean the world to us.
Before you vote, take a closer look. In an exclusive walkthrough filmed during the world premiere at Miami and featured on Multihulls World, our own Nick Harvey walks you through the 50 Sail from bow to flybridge. Nick is Aquila's Chief Revenue Officer and a lifelong sailor with over two decades of experience in the sailing catamaran industry. He knows what works on a passage, what matters on a charter week, and what makes a crew smile at the end of a long day.
It's worth the watch.
We didn't set out to build a sailing catamaran that followed the expected formula. We set out to build one that reflected everything we've learned about making life on the water better.
A solid bow cockpit built for living. Where most sailing catamarans use a trampoline, the 50 Sail features a fixed, enclosed forward cockpit with dedicated seating. It creates an entirely new social space that's safe, comfortable, and unlike anything else in this size range.
Bridge-to-bow access from the flybridge. Borrowed from our power catamaran range, integrated stairs connect the flybridge directly to the foredeck cockpit. It gives you a natural flow between two of the best spots on the boat.
Private cabin entrances. Each cabin has its own dedicated entrance and private bathroom. No shared companionways, no compromises on personal space. Choose from 4, 5, or 6-cabin configurations depending on how you plan to cruise.
A flybridge helm designed for real sailing. The centrally positioned wheel, flanked by winches with control lines led to either side, delivers the ergonomics and visibility that make sailing genuinely enjoyable. This helm was designed to be the best seat on the boat.
Your choice of propulsion. Go with traditional diesel saildrives or choose Aquila's whisper-quiet Hybrid Ocean Drive™ for silent electric motoring, solar regeneration, and a more sustainable approach to cruising.
Developed in partnership with J&J Design and constructed using advanced composite infusion techniques, the 50 Sail offers the interior volume of a boat several feet longer, flexible layouts that convert between private ownership and charter use, and sailing performance that has genuinely impressed industry reviewers.
Sailing is in our DNA
Here's what most people don't know: this isn't a power catamaran company learning to sail. It's a team of sailors who also happen to build the world's best power catamarans.
Aquila co-founder Lex Raas started racing sailboats at four years old and has competed in international sailing events throughout his career.
His son Jean Raas, Chief Product Officer and CEO of Aquila USA, was a member of the USA Sailing team for three years and participated in the 2000 Olympic trials for Team USA. His son Alain Raas, Global Brand Director, sailed competitively from an early age and has completed trans-Pacific crossings.
Nick Harvey, Chief Revenue Officer, brings over two decades of sailing catamaran experience from previous roles in the industry. Chief Designer Jure Zule has sailed competitively since he was young. And Global Service Manager Gareth Wood has captained large sailing catamarans for private owners.
This isn't a team that studied sailing from a distance. They've lived it. And that experience shows in every detail of the 50 Sail.
The Multihull of the Year award is one of the most respected honors in the multihull world, and the 50 Sail is up against strong competition in the Sail 45' to 55' category. Voting takes about a minute and is open to everyone at multihulloftheyear.com through April 18th.
If you believe in what we're building, we'd love your support.
