The beginning of the Aquila Power Catamaran brand started when Bill Mcgill, CEO of MarineMax, the largest powerboat retailer in the world desired to expand his company into the charter vacations industry. McGill launched MarineMax Vacations in October 2011 by hiring Raul Bermudez to head up this new initiative. In January 2012 MarineMax Vacations delivered its first charter in the British Virgin Islands.

Early in January 2012, McGill enlisted the expertise of Lex Raas, a highly experienced boat developer and charter industry veteran. In February 2012, the Aquila Power Catamaran brand was born.
McGill and Raas, to whom between them more than a fair number of ‘Boat of the Year’ awards are attributed, began strategizing on how to build the most experienced team of industry veterans and design experts necessary to grow this new charter business as well as launch the new breed of power catamaran. Ant Steward, a world record holder for sailing with vast practical knowledge of catamaran systems and designs, was added to the development team. This final addition made up the core of the MarineMax Vacations and Aquila Power Cat Team.

Leveraging existing relationships within the boat industry, the MarineMax team partnered with J&J Design Group; designers of more award-winning boats than arguably any other design group in the world. J&J has worked with companies such as Azimut Yachts, Bavaria, Beneteau, Dufour, Jeanneau, and Monte Carlo, just to name a few. In addition, J&J Design Group’s development arm known as Seaway began the process of designing the first true Aquila Power Catamaran – the Aquila 48.

As the discussion between MarineMax and J7J were in process, manufacturer Sino Eagle, a leader in high tech composite manufacturing with previous experience building catamarans for the world’s largest charter companies, was embarking on its plan to build a new factory solely with the focus on becoming a leading boat builder.

By leveraging the combined knowledge of these units, the collective team that was formed is arguably the most talented group ever put together to develop a power catamaran specifically for both the private retail market as well as for charter.

The result has been an uncompromising design brief, advanced industry experience, engineering, and world class manufacturing seen in the new Aquila 48 power catamaran, as well as the latest model – the Aquila 44 Power Cat.

These power catamarans are developing reputations as the game changers in the industry, and the new standard of excellence in boating experiences. MarineMax and Sino Eagle have now partnered to launch this exciting new brand of power catamarans globally. Both inside and out, Aquila Power Catamarans are designed to maximize your appreciation and enjoyment of life on the water; whether you’re living aboard or entertaining friends and family without leaving the dock.

The expanding Aquila range now consists of the Aquila 38, 44, and 48 power catamarans.
