Raised in Florida, boats have always been a part of Roger Watson's life and even before joining Sino Eagle USA, he had earned his Master Captain's License. When the opportunity to work for Sino Eagle USA and on Aquila Power Catamarans presented itself, Roger was excited to further expand his knowledge. His eagerness and quick ability to learn have made him a go to for questions about Aquila Power Catamarans today.
Roger joined Sine Eagle USA in January 2013 and within five days, he and Jean Raas were on their way to Hilton Head, South Carolina to prepare to offload the first Aquila 48 which would soon be arriving in Savannah, Georgia. He met the team commissioning the boats at the time and off they went to collect the boat. This was the first time Roger stepped aboard the Aquila 48 and, just as many are, he was WOWED by it. Since his first day, Roger has quickly become an expert and earned several certifications to assist in expanding his knowledge. His certifications include American Boats and Yacht Council (ABYC) Marine Electrical Technician, ABYC Corrosion Technician, Spectra Watermaker Tech, Fischer Panda Tech and NMEA Tech.
Over his nearly six years with Sino Eagle USA and working with Aquila Power Catamarans, Roger's responsibilities have grown. As Purchasing and Logistics Supervisor, Roger purchases about 65% of the components used to build Aquila power catamarans, gets them to a warehouse where they are consolidated and sent to the factory, negotiates pricing, and handles day-to-day communication with suppliers. Roger also works as Commissioning Manager, which means he manages the logistics and receives Aquila boats coming in on cargo ships and offloads them to a marina (normally in New Orleans). Then all systems are checked and they are prepared to head to Clearwater, Florida. The Aquila Power Catamarans that are joining the British Virgin Islands fleet are also commissioned and outfitted before they head to the base in the British Virgin Islands. In addition to these responsibilities Roger is a delivery captain (moving boats to different destinations on their own hull), surveys boats before they leave the factory in China, travels to Aquila Power Catamarans to resolve electrical or systems issues, visits the factory to offer technical assistance with systems and electrical and is the Systems Integration Manager.
Roger's close involvement in various areas of Aquila Power Catamarans allows him to recognize ways to continue to improve the boats which is then shared with the teams. With his vast knowledge and experience of Aquila Power Catamarans, Roger is a great resource, working not only with the Sino Eagle USA team, but also dealers and owners to ensure the Aquila boats are ready for their next cruise and exceeding expectations. At our recent first annual Aquila Owners Rendezvous, Roger attended and met with owners individually to walk through their boats with them and answer their questions. This is an example of how Aquila Power Catamarans not only raise the bar and feature state-of-the-art technology, but the team cares about taking care of owners (and their boats) and making sure the quality of the boats are second to none.
